What category of Governor are you?

I am a Community Governor

Do you have any specific roles on the Governing Body?

I am link governor for Performing Arts and Computing.

Which committees are you a member of?

I am Chair of the Business Management Committee and a member of the IT Futures Committee.

Why did you apply to become a Governor at Ivanhoe College?

I currently have 2 children at Ivanhoe and a third in a local primary.

I wanted to make a contribution to my children’s education and give something back to the community of Ashby using the skills and knowledge I’ve built up in my working life. Quality education is something we should cherish as a society and I worry that we sometimes take it for granted......in my view the real test of a society is the opportunities it offers to every single one of its children.....we should all be striving to helping make sure every young person gets the best possible education.

What experience have you had in your life that you bring to your work on the Governing Body?

The single most important thing is that I have an opinion - it’s important to not be intimidated by the governor role.....if you have a view on the school and you're prepared to participate in discussions and decision making then you absolutely have something to contribute.

I've found being a governor a fascinating learning curve - the education and training provided is in the most part excellent.

In my working life I’m an IT Project Manager with experience of managing large budgets and people so I’m able to apply this experience to the governor role.
