What category of Governor are you?

I am a Community Governor.

Do you have any specific roles on the Governing Body?

I am the Chair of Governors,

Which committees are you a member of?

I am a member of the Business Management Committee.

Why did you apply to become a Governor at Ivanhoe College?

I originally joined the governing body as a parent governor in 2010, was part of the transition to an academy and was re-appointed as a community governor after my daughter completed her time at Ivanhoe.  For the last few years, I have been chair of the Business Management committee and lead governor for safeguarding; experience that has given me a lot of insight into college life.
I am passionate about the value of educating the young people within our society to the highest possible standards.  A really decent education was the best thing that anybody has ever given me and helped me develop opportunities that might otherwise have been closed to me.

What experiences have you had in your life that you bring to your work on the governing body?

Professionally, I am a Chartered Engineer and I head up the global operations of a large engineering consultancy, so I have a broad range of professional experience with things like financial performance, complex health & safety issues and HR matters, and I hope that I can use this experience to both support and challenge the college.
Between 2007 and 2015, I was also Vice-chair of the governing body of Worthington Primary School, a local village school that is a feeder to Ivanhoe College.
