We are continuously updating and developing the programme of Enrichment Days and see it as an important part of the curriculum where students are actively involved in their learning. The opportunities at Ivanhoe for students to learn go far beyond the classroom and we are rightly proud of the enrichment and student leadership programme we offer at Ivanhoe.
There are eight days each year which are special curriculum enrichment days; giving students the opportunity to experience activities focused on a department or whole school theme. The days give students more time to focus and develop their learning, they provide opportunities for new experiences as well as nurturing and developing already identified talents .
Our aim is to involve all students, develop their skills to become active members of Ivanhoe and the wider community and preparing them to be responsible citizens and enthusiastic lifelong learners. Enrichment Days provide an opportunity for students to study a subject in more details for the day, giving the opportunity to develop additional skills such as team work, and encouraging them to take part in activities and challenges that are different to their normal everyday lessons.
For example: Design have time to design, make and evaluate a product all in one day, while Science can develop a full practical investigation from hypothesis through practical work to analysis and evaluation.
Departments may also organise days which involve out of school trips or longer periods of time with a half year group, e.g. places of worship or historical visits and associated work.
One of the days is entitled “International day” and is dedicated to focusing learning on one particular continent.
