Following the questionnaire you completed from the transition booklet, and contacts we have had from new parents, we have seen a pattern in questions that you wanted to know the answers to. We have put together this list of FAQ's to answer these common queries.

When will I find out who is in my class?

The Ivanhoe Transition Team are working with the information passed to us by your class teachers at primary school. We always try to place a boy and a girl from each school in a form group so you will know someone else. You might also recognise children in your form from older year groups who went to your primary school.
If you are new to the area, the transition team try to place you with other children who are also from out of catchment.

How will we get to know everyone if we don't have transition days?

Due to social distancing rules, we are unable to run our usual transition days at this time. However, after the summer holiday, we will make sure that transition events take place.
Ivanhoe will make sure that you have time to settle into your new school and meet other students in your form group before we return to timetabled lessons

How long are lessons?

Each lesson is one hour long. You will have five lessons a day. You can see the school timetable by clicking here.

How do we organise a school bus pass?

County Hall Transport will have contacted you if you are eligible for free transport. If you have not yet heard from them, please call the Transport Team at County Hall. More information about travelling to school can be found by clicking here.

If I get lost, will I get told off when late to class?

It is normal to feel anxious about getting lost in a new place. We have new staff each year who also worry about how to find their way around. There is always someone around who will be able to give you directions and make sure you get to the right place.
Teachers understand that you may struggle to find your way in the first few weeks and they won’t tell you off if you have a genuine reason for being late.
You may find that other children in your class are going to the same next lesson so you will be able to go together.

How will I pay for any snacks/lunch when the biometric set up hasn’t been done yet?

Parents have been asked to sign consent for the biometric system. We will organise finger readings to be scanned when you arrive. This happens at the start of Year 7 each year and arrangements for students without biometric consent will be made if required.  We are currently monitoring Government advice regarding the use of biometric readers & have very regular cleaning regimes in place.

Do they do vegetarian option?

We have a wide selection of options available for students with dietary requirements, including vegetarians. You can see more information about school meals (this year's menu and prices) by clicking here.

Where do you go for a sports club at lunch time or after school?

Our clubs take place in lots of different venues around the school. The staff member in charge of the club will tell you where you need to go. There is some more information about clubs that have run this year by clicking here.
