Hello! Welcome to Ivanhoe. We are very much looking forward to your child attending Ivanhoe in the Autumn Term and starting to work in partnership with you on their ’Journey to Excellence’.  We are sorry that we have not been able to run our face to face induction programme this year. The government guidelines protecting bubbles meant that we could not induct or mix the 30 primary schools who feed into Ivanhoe, but we hope that you have found the weekly updates and videos on our transition page of the website to be helpful and informative.

We would like to invite you to view these three videos to receive the information we would usually give you in person at our welcome evening. We would ask you to sit with your child and watch the presentations together. Following the videos, further down the page you can see further information about the start to the school year in August.

We look forward to working with you over the coming years and wish you and your child a happy and successful last few weeks at primary school and a smooth transition to Ivanhoe College.

The first video is an introduction to Ivanhoe from Mrs Allford - Headteacher

Please watch the following 2 videos which will introduce your form tutor. Your form can be found at the top of your welcome letter.

Please pause this video when you get to your form group to read the information on the slide.

It has been bought to our attention that the letters have gone out to parents with your child's year half (X or Y) on instead of house letter. (A, E, F, W) To easily work out your child's form tutor please refer to the last 2 letters of the form name eg: NM, KW.

Apologies for the confusion.

Induction Day

Your child will be phased back in to the Autumn Term, with Year 7 students having an induction day on Wednesday 25th August 2021. Year 8 and year 9 students will return on Thursday 26th August. This will give Year 7 students an opportunity to look around and meet staff before the full school returns.

Your child should arrive at school between 8.15am and 8.35am on Wednesday 25th August. They will be greeted by staff at the front of school and directed to the playground where their tutors will be waiting to meet them.

What to bring on your first day:

· A reusable water bottle is essential

· A pencil case equipped with a black or blue pen plus spares, pencil, rubber, ruler, pink pen (no sharpeners please)

· Any medication (inhalers, epipen, etc) – see medical conditions at school below

· An age appropriate reading book. At Ivanhoe, we are a reading school and our recent research into what constitutes best progress and learning in all subjects has meant that reading is a priority in this next academic year and ongoing. Please support us and your child in developing or maintaining a regular reading habit. In order to aid smooth transitions in class, we expect students to have a book “on the go”.

Covid Equipment

The guidance for schools has not yet been updated. Please ensure that your child brings the following items in case of continued Covid safety measures in school:

· A face mask

· A small bottle of hand sanitiser is recommended if your child has sensitivity issues

Please follow our Facebook and twitter page to keep up to date with the latest information in regards to Covid. As we have found so far, news is often released during school holidays and social media is a quick way for us to get information out, particularly for students that won't yet have our communications app.

We operate a strict uniform policy at Ivanhoe College.

Full details can be found here: Uniform policy

Please note all shoes must be plain black in leather or leather look and be able to be polished. We DO NOT accept trainers or canvas shoes.

Ivanhoe College uniform is available online from Marks and Spencer www.mandsyourschooluniform.com, and available to purchase from Ashby Schoolwear at Babes 2 Tots in Ashby and from Pupil Schoolwear in Swadlincote.

Please note that from 6th July until 3rd August Marks and Spencer will be offering 20% discount on all school uniform.

PE Kit

Ivanhoe PE kit is available from Liss Sport. They provide a complete kit package which is good value for money. Due to the current situation we have decided not to have surnames printed on the back of the PE kit tops again this year. This is because only non-named items can be exchanged free of charge.

Orders can be placed by going online at www.lisssport.co.uk. To guarantee your order being delivered by the start of the academic year you must have placed you order by Sunday 11th July. Ordered kit is bagged up individually and your child can collect it on the first day of the Autumn Term. PE Kit will not be required before this.

Full details of the kit can be foundby clicking here.

School coats and school jumpers

Your child will need a warm waterproof coat so that they can remain outside for breaks and lunches. All classrooms will be well ventilated so when the weather gets cooler it is advisable to purchase the v neck Ivanhoe jumper to wear beneath the blazer or a white vest under their shirt so that your child remains at a comfortable temperature.

Break and Lunch

Year 7 break time will be at 10am (20 mins) and lunch break at 12.20pm (45mins). Please make sure that your child brings a healthy snack (nut free) for morning break. You will be sent a login to our cashless catering system prior to the start of term.

Contact with school

Meetings with staff must be by prior arrangement in this first instance. Your child’s tutor will be in contact with you to set up communication channels.

  • Pastoral Support Overall Responsibility – Mr Bellmore: g.bellmore@ivanhoe.co.uk
  • Head of Progress - Mr Stevenson: a.stevenson@ivanhoe.co.uk

In the event of your child presenting with Covid symptoms in school, we need a family member or carer to be available to collect your child as soon as possible. If you have any concerns that your child has either symptoms or has come into contact with somebody who is positive, please email Covidresults@ivanhoe.co.uk or telephone the school for advice.

Please download the MyED app ready to receive notifications from us once your child returns – this is our main method of parent communication and the best way to receive information about recent updates and reminders from school.

Further Transition

Please make sure you and your child have visited the transition page on our website. There are a number of activities to complete to ensure your child will be prepared and ready to start with us.
