In February, we once again had the honour of taking some of our Year 9 students to the Ypres area of Belgium and the Somme in France. This trip runs every year and is an opportunity to make our Year 9 WW1 History curriculum come alive. We visited various places of historical significance, memorials, cemeteries, museums and trench systems. We also took part in the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, where we laid a bespoke wreath made by the students. As usual, this was a moving and emotional experience for all.
This year’s group were absolutely excellent and demonstrated a high level of engagement, reflection and empathy .
Our students said:
“A unique experience”
“ I learned so much and would really recommend this trip to anyone.”
“ A perfect trip for anyone fascinated in History.”
“ Very touching and emotional. It made me see war from all sides.”
