On the afternoon of Thursday, 17th March, twelve of our 9e students visited the Caterpillar Learning and Inspiration Centre at Desford.
Dressed in 'high-Vis' vests and wearing safety glasses, they participated in a guided factory tour looking at the management and production of the Caterpillar backhoe loader. Back in the classroom, they undertook a real hands-on challenge to construct a brake pedal, identifying and fitting the necessary components from a series of photographic instructions. Alyssia Hawkins out-performed all other students to complete this task in record time!
Our final classroom task 'the lego challenge' saw both of our student groups commended for their excellent teamwork.
The visit provided a valuable insight into engineering for our students, with several inspired to consider future career options in this area. A very interesting time was had by all!
