Year 8 Art and Design Enrichment Day

The Year 8 students took part in a huge range of acticities as part of their Enrichment Day on 15th March.

In Textiles and Resitant Materials  students looked at creating 'holiday' souvenirs based on tradition techniques and designs. In Textiles students used the traditional technique of batik, which involves drawing with hot wax to create a resistance for dyes. The results were excellent considering they had never done it before. Then in Resistant Materials they used ICT technolology to design a magnet which was then engraved and cut on the laser cutter.

In Food Technology students created a range of easter baked goods including hot cross buns and easter shortbread biscuits.

In Control Formula 1 was the theme of the day. Students worked in teams, they chose a country to focus on and then looked undertook a number of challenges including a quiz, a study of aerodynamics, designed helmets and made and tested car models.

In Art students used fairytales as their inspiration creating a range of mixed media compositions based on this theme. As well as having the opportunity to contribute to the school's mural for the Ashby Arts festival.
