Dreadlock Alien

Enrichment Day 10th December  - Dreadlock Alien - Performance Poetry.

The English Enrichment Day was designed to help Year 9 students develop their appreciation of poetry in preparation for their GCSE English studies. We invited a man called Richard Grant AKA The Dreadlock Alien into school to help to inspire and motivate students and develop their appreciation of poetry.

Dreadlock is a performance poet which means that he concentrates on performing his poems rather than writing them in books. He  performed some of his poems for the group, including a completely improvised one using their names! He then introduced the topic of war to get students to write their own poetry.

They were encouraged to create a ‘performance’ using beat-boxing, singing, drama and musical instruments. The students then performed their poems in the final session and peer assessed the work
