On Friday 1st March, we took two Year 8 hockey teams to Oakham School for the County Hockey Tournament. Both the boys’ team and the girls’ team showed outstanding sportsmanship, determination and independence as they organised themselves and they conducted themselves fantastically on the day, which was noted by several other members of staff. The girls had some difficult teams to play against but they showed great resilience as they took every game as a challenge to improve and were always asking questions on what they should do next to improve their game further. It was a great learning experience for all involved. The boys were very independent and organised themselves, even down to wanting to do their own team talks. They beat several outstanding teams and in the end, it came down to goal difference, where they lost out by one point to coming second, meaning that they just missed out on Midlands qualification! Both teams were a pleasure to take out of school and did Ivanhoe proud.
