Loughborough Lightning Netball Trip

On 4th April, we took 46 of our netballers to Loughborough University for a fantastic trip. It was jam packed with lots of brilliant activities, including a netball coaching session and a strength and conditioning session from the practical perspective, as well as sessions on performance analysis and sports psychology. We were also all inspired by an amazing question and answer session with some of the Super League team’s players.

We finished off the day by watching the inspirational Loughborough Lightning with a stone baked pizza in a closely contended match against Leeds Rhinos. Lightning took the win in the final quarter, with the final score being 62-54.

Our students were absolutely brilliant on the trip and we have even received an email from members of public who were sat near to us, saying;

“My mum, my daughter, her friend and I were sat near a group of your students at the Loughborough lightning netball game last night. They were a real pleasure: polite, friendly and well behaved. A real credit to the school.”

Not only were we immensely proud with our students for their behaviour on this trip, but we were also so proud of the fantastic questions and learning that took place in relation to careers. We started off the day with a brief tour of some of the university campus, where our students were asking lots of questions about the courses on offer, as well as how applying for university works and the accommodation available.

The day continued in this way, as many of the sessions were delivered by different professionals who had graduated from Loughborough University themselves. Therefore, they were able to give students at Ivanhoe a real insight into their different roles, the types of characteristics that might be beneficial for those jobs and the qualifications required. It was brilliant to see – lots of questions were asked around the time it took for students to qualify in their profession, entry requirements for university, and what GCSE options they should take.

Overall, it was a fantastic trip and a well-deserved reward to our netball teams, who have committed to training and fixtures throughout the year. Well done to all involved, it really has been a pleasure. Looking forward to the new season next year! We really hope it has inspired our netballers!

For anyone interested in watch Loughborough Lightning themselves, the tickets are really reasonably priced – please see the link below!
