Congratulations and fond farewell

The SEND Team would like to congratulate Mr. Orton who has been appointed as PE/ Performing Arts Assistant. He will be transitioning to this new role over the next few weeks. 
In order to support our LSA staffing during Mr. Orton’s transition to PE, we have welcomed back  Mr. Gray who has joined us as a temporary member of the team to fill in in for Mr. Orton until a permanent replacement is made. Mr. Gray will be supporting across the school and he has very kindly agreed to mentor Mr. Orton’s students as part of this role. He does not currently have a school email address so parents are advised to contact Mrs. Johnson in the first instance who will pass any messages on. Alternatively, parents can phone the school office to leave messages for Mr. Gray.


Interventions

A new term brings the first round of our SEND Interventions. Students are put forward for a Wave 2 intervention using the SEND policy as part of the ‘Assess, Plan, Do Review’ process. This term we are running:

  • Reading for Meaning
  • Spelling
  • Kinaesthetic Handwriting
  • ASD and Anxiety Management
  • Social Skills Group
  • Numeracy Catch Up

Students taking part in this term’s sessions are all working incredibly hard and SEND Learning Mentors look forward to sharing their success with class teachers and parents at the end of these sessions. More sessions will begin in the next few weeks and parents will be contacted if the SEND Team feel that their child would benefit from access to these short courses alongside Quality First Teaching across the curriculum.


Year 7 Settling In Evening 

Learning Support Mentors will be available to meet Parents of their mentees at the Year 7 Settling In Evening on Wednesday, 23rd October. You do not need to book a slot with the Mentor as we run a drop in style clinic on this evening. If you have a child identified with SEND, please come along and say hello to your child’s mentor as we’d love to see you.

 

Staff Training

All Classroom based staff received training on a range of SEND needs during our INSET days at the end of August. Further training in ADHD Strategies is booked for the LSA Team and representatives of each subject in the next few weeks.
