Year 8 Student Wins National Patchwork Competition

We are very proud to be able to share the achievement of our Year 8 student, Mhairi McGrath, who won the Under 16's category of a national competition in the Popular Patchwork Magazine.

Contestants were invited to submit a 10 1/2" x15" quilt based on the theme, 'my favourite colour'. The entries were then put on display at the Festival of Quilts and the winner was voted for by visitors to the show.

Mhairi won with her stunning owl design. Mhairi said that she has learnt how to sew and quilt with her Nan, and her Nan and brother encouraged her to enter the competition. The inspiration for the owl came from Brownies, where Mhairi is a helper, and it took about 2 1/2 weeks to complete.

She received a new sewing machine as her prize.
