On Wednesday, 29th January, eight Year 9 students visited the Engineering Department of Nottingham University for the
Caterpillar Robotics and Engineering Day. After an introductory presentation to the Department and to ‘Engineering’ as a career, students worked in pairs to build an infra-red remote control robot beetle. The construction process allowed them to learn about gear structure, motor principles and electric circuits. After lunch, the students were given a short tour of the University’s engineering facilities before returning to continue working on their ‘beetle’. The students had a great experience and an enjoyable time, all being able to take home their handiwork or a new kit on which to begin again!
