You have mentioned that some learners are finding it difficult to monitor their homework on Arbor. From Monday, we will now be changing the settings on Arbor so that learners can now mark their homework as submitted themselves, using the green button that will now appear on the assignment information. Doing this will remove it from their due or overdue list in Arbor. This means the Arbor Assignments list will act more like a homework diary to help them keep track of their work.
How will teachers monitor homework?
Teachers will set homework on Arbor as usual. Sometimes this will be a direction to another online platform (such as Sparx or Seneca), or sometimes it will be instructions for a particular task to do. Teachers will no longer be able to ‘submit’ a child’s homework for them, but homework will be collected and marked as usual (depending on if it is paper or computer based) and house points or consequences issued as appropriate.
How can I support my child and the school as a parent?
You will continue to see your child’s homework assignments on the Arbor app. You may need to help your child work out a system – for example, will they click the submitted button after they have done their homework, or on the due date when they actually give it to the teacher? There is also nothing to stop your child clicking ‘submit’ even if they haven’t actually done the work… so if your child might enjoy this loophole, you may need to monitor their consequences!
