Taking our students out of the traditional classroom and into the real world has numerous, wonderful advantages that should always be encouraged and thankfully here at Ivanhoe, we have a wealth of staff who are regularly willing to organise and lead such learning adventures.
We offer a wide range of residential opportunities both in the local area and further afield. Current research shows that the number of trips we offer at Ivanhoe exceeds the national average for secondary schools quite considerably. In so doing, we hope we offer something for everyone.
The information given here on the website should hopefully assist you and your child in making decisions about which trip/s they might like to go on and of course, to help with budgetary decisions. If your child is currently eligible for free school meals a proportion of the cost of the trip for board and lodging can be paid for out of the grant. Please speak to the named members of staff for more details.
Please be aware that there are a limted number of spaces on each trip. If we are oversubscribed names will be drawn out of a hat in line with our Trips and Visits policy. To secure an offered place a deposit must be paid. Any students not initially successful in gaining a place will be put onto a reserve list.
80 students will be joining us at The Oaks Campsite in Oaks-in-Charnwood for an exciting trip. Students will be camping out in large bell tents whilst trying out a whole range of exciting activities. Some of the highlights are mountain boarding, bouldering, shelter building, orienteering, climbing and rifle target shooting. Students will work together as a team to complete challenges and at the end of the day, we'll gather round the campfire to toast marshmallows and drink hot chocolate. This is sure to be a fantastic experience for students who have never been camping and seasoned campers alike. The cost of this trip includes accommodation, food, fully comprehensive insurance, a team t-shirt and all activities. Parents will need to transport their child to the campsite themselves, or arrange a car-share with other students. The campsite is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from school. Tents are provided but students will need to bring their own warm sleeping bag.
This cultural trip will be an exciting opportunity to explore London: Students will take a ride on the London Eye, walk up The Mall to Buckingham Palace, visit both the Science and Natural History museums, see London from a River Cruise and experience the exciting London Dungeons. The cost of the trip includes transport, accommodation, fully comprehensive insurance, and entrance to all activities. The cost of the trip also includes an evening meal, breakfast at YHA St Paul’s (our hostel accommodation) and a packed lunch for the second day. Our highly popular outdoor pursits survival skills trip will take 45 students to The Bushcraft Company in Boughton Woods, Northamptonshire, for 3 days of exciting bushcraft activities, including fire lighting, shelter building, tracking animals, camouflage and concealment and backwoods cooking. We will be camping out in large bell tents and putting some of the skills we have learned to good use. It will be a challenge; we will be without many of the creature comforts we have become accustomed to but this trip offers a fantastic opportunity to explore and interact with the natural world around us in a way that we might not get to at home. This is a great chance for our students to develop both personally and socially; working together as a team to cook meals or build a suitable shelter. The cost of the trip includes transport, accommodation, food, fully comprehensive insurance and instruction by fully trained and experienced survival guides.
Over the course of 3 days 70 year 9 students will visit some of the popular attractions in the North Yorkshire area, including the Scarborough SkyTrail, Whitby Abbey and historic York. We'll also have time to visit the arcade, do some team building activities, beach games, rock-pooling and climbing up the iconic 199 steps. We'll be staying in the spectacular YHA Boggle Hole; a youth hostel in its own smuggler's cove located near Robin Hood's bay, between Whitby and Scarborough. The hostel is set in a fantastic location that emphasises the wilderness surrounding it: accessible by a single, steep footpath, a series of steps down to the rocky beach and fantastic views along the coast. This trip offers an excellent chance for students to experience some of the UK's rich culture, build stronger bonds with other students and have a bit of fun. The cost of the trip includes transport, accommodation, food (except for a packed lunch on the Wednesday), fully comprehensive insurance and entrance to all of the attractions.
