This week we marked Remembrance day as a community. On Sunday, students laid a wreath at the local Ashby Remembrance parade - it was an honour to be a part of this. The whole school observed a two-minute silence during lessons on Tuesday 11th November when students calmly and quietly reflected on the sacrifice made by those who fought for us within several wars and periods of conflict.
We have also marked Remembrance this year with powerful and thought-provoking assemblies delivered to the whole school, looking at the impact of the war on soldiers and the emotional and physical scars that were borne by those who survived.
Poppies were also on sale in school, sold by our house leaders.
Students from local organisations were invited to wear the uniform from their organisation to school on Tuesday 11th November to represent their group. Organisations represented were Girl guides, St John’s Ambulance, Air cadets, Army cadets, Sea cadets and scouts.
We also had a community display in the school Reception area which was the result of an Interhouse competition. The display was adorned with the poppies created by our students and members of our wider community such as parents and staff. Poppies were made from a variety of different materials such as clay, beads, fabric, cross stitch, wool, plastic as well as paper. This created a striking visual display to welcome guests to our school and to be enjoyed by staff and students too.
A big thanks to all for their impeccably respectful attitudes, and to those who contributed to our poppy display in Reception.
