During October, Year 7 have made Mexican vegetable pockets which tie in well with the Mexican Day of the Dead festival celebrated on Monday 2nd November. Students have developed a range of skills such as combining ingredients, dicing, slicing, glazing, grating, and baking. Some excellent results were achieved!
We have also been inspired by Halloween - making Halloween chocolate tarts in Year 10 - focusing on developing our shortcrust pastry making skills and then completing this with a rich ganache filling. Some students chose to use the feathering technique to add some decorative spiders web effect.
Also, in Year 10 we have used our developing knowledge of micronutrients to label up Halloween skeletons to show the impact of these nutrients upon the body and to discuss the functions that they have within the body. This learning opportunity allowed for group work and made learning interactive and fun!
The Bridge - Pumpkin carving provided a great sensory experience for students at The Bridge who created a display. We plan to use pumpkins to create some soup and risotto to develop our culinary skills too. Watch this space!
