We believe in providing every child with success, allowing their creativity to flourish and investing in curiosity. As a department we devote a lot of time in to helping students improve and develop, not only their core art & design skills, but also many transferable skills.
We offer a broad range of subjects within ADT with lots of opportunities to develop and build on core knowledge and skills. Throughout years 7 & 8 students will study 7 specialist areas across Art, Design Technology and Food Technology. In Year 9 they will specialise in 4 of these areas in preparation for their GCSE. Students are taught in mixed ability groups and have the opportunity to use up to date machinery in specialist design workshops.

Students learn about the Art Formal Elements and complete drawing/ painting tasks and activities relevant to each one. Students learn about colour theory and draw objects from a primary and secondary source. Students develop their art skills to produce a composition based on the artist Michael Craig Martin. |
Students learn and experiment with ceramic techniques and other sculpting methods and learn about the glazing and firing processes. They then develop ideas from drawing into clay. With a theme of monsters, students take inspiration from Pixar, Monster inc. and ceramic artists such as James DeRosso before designing and creating their own clay monster.

Students follow a skill-based project based around Sweets and Treats. The students explore their use of different materials when making various observational studiesand have the oppotunity to analyse and respond to different artist’s work. Students will build on their techniques and investigate their own ideas to create development work and a final outcome based on the theme. |
The theme is Surrealism where students investigate and develop ideas to create a mask. Students build on ceramic techniques and knowledge to investigate their own ideas, students have a lot more freedom and choice of a theme. Students are expected to present work creatively and neatly, produce an in depth artist study giving thoughts and opinions on the work. Students independently gather their sources on their individual theme, then refine ideas through drawings and clay testers to produce a quality surreal mask. |
