• For all students to gain a high quality of skills, knowledge, understanding, appreciation and LOVE of drama.
• To develop successful learners, who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve their best in drama.
• To shape confident individuals, who are able to create, perform and evaluate safely and find healthy fulfillment from discussing creative ideas while celebrating diversity.
The Performing Arts department at Ivanhoe plays a key role in offering students the opportunity to express themselves creatively, physically and mentally during lessons and through extra-curricular activities. Lessons are predominantly practical that cultivate social skills, refine discipline and patience and help to boost self-esteem. It is now widely proven that regular practical lessons in music develop the brain, helping students to progress further in all core subjects. As a department we are continually progressing the use of technology to improve students experience and final outcome.
Students are taught skills in three main areas – Devising, Performing and Evaluating through curriculum lessons.
In key stage three, students develop their acting skills to devise creative performances through exploring a variety of topics and themes. Students begin to learn about contrasting styles and genres of drama and how to effectively apply dramatic techniques to enhance and improve performance.
Students are also introduced to design pathways such as set, sound, lighting and costume.
During key stage three students have access to a drama club, Christmas and Summer concerts well as extra drama productions and a school show every other year.
